Prompts.chat: a library of prompts for clearer communication with AI

When working with artificial intelligence, the way we explain a task often matters. “Write an article” leaves plenty of room for guesswork. Adding a topic, audience, length and required sources describes the expected result more precisely. prompts.chat offers a community library of ready-made instructions that can serve as a starting point.

The project began in December 2022 as Awesome ChatGPT Prompts. Its founder, known on GitHub as @f, originally needed to organise his own ChatGPT prompts. That personal collection gradually developed into a public platform for sharing experience with AI. Project history

A prompt is an instruction describing a task for AI. It can include context, requirements for the result, examples and constraints. The prompts.chat library contains templates for writing, programming, education and other activities. According to its documentation, they can be used with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other modern AI assistants. Project on GitHub

Using it can be straightforward: find a suitable template, read it, adapt it to your needs and paste it into a conversation with AI. Simply copying a text prompt requires no additional software installation.

For example, when preparing an article for a technology website, we could write this original prompt:

Write an article in English for owners of small business websites. Explain what backups are for, what a backup should contain and how to test a restore. Use plain language, add a practical example and link to the official documentation of the tools mentioned. Aim for about 600 words.

This instruction specifies the audience, content and approach. That is where I see the value of a library like this: it shows which details we can give AI before work begins. Adapting the template to the particular task and checking the result afterwards remain worthwhile.

For developers, the project also offers terminal access and integration through MCP, an interface allowing AI tools to communicate with external services. A dedicated Claude Code plugin supports searching for prompts and skills, retrieving their contents and saving your own instructions.

Organisations can deploy their own private library with custom branding and authentication. The self-hosting guide explains the process.

The project's source code is publicly available under the MIT licence. Prompt text and related data are released under CC0, allowing free reuse and modification. The project licence file explains the distinction.

To try it, open the prompt library, choose a template and add your own task. A useful comparison is to submit the same task in your own words and assess which result better meets your requirements.

About Mechnext

MechNext is an independent project exploring artificial intelligence and practical ways to use it. I share clear articles, ideas, experiments and tools that reveal what AI can do in everyday life and at work.

The project grew from curiosity about how far AI can go and a desire to try new possibilities in practice. It is a place for anyone who wants to understand artificial intelligence better and use it creatively.

Content on MechNext is for information only and is not a commercial offer or professional advice. AI outputs can be wrong, so verify important information with trusted sources.
